About

People started calling me the tech guy long before I called myself that.

I sit between you and the tech, so nothing gets lost in translation and nobody sells you something you don't need.

Tobi Olu-Awakan, founder of HubNeXT

Based in Ottawa. Working with lawyers across Canada.

The real version

A lot of breadth, before the depth.

I started in electrical and electronic engineering, and it turned into something close to a joint degree along the way: real hands-on hardware work, plus coding, plus design. When I moved to Canada, I studied business intelligence, analysis, and analytics, which is where I really learned how to understand a business from the inside instead of just the technical side of it.

Alongside all of that, I was freelancing as a business development specialist, and separately teaching myself to build and fix things as a self-taught coder. I worked with AdsPower and with the University of Calgary. By the time I'd gathered all of it, I realized I had a lot of breadth and not much depth. I knew a bit of everything and hadn't gone deep on any one thing.

So I made a decision: pick one group of people and go deep for them instead of wide for everyone. I chose lawyers, and honestly, it wasn't really a choice. I grew up around lawyers. I've been surrounded by the profession my whole life, my fiancée is a lawyer, and if tech hadn't pulled me in, I probably would have become one myself. My life picked this audience before I did. HubNeXT is just me finally acting on it.

How I work

Four things you can hold me to.

Plain answers

No jargon, ever. If I can't explain it simply, I don't understand it well enough yet.

You own everything

Sites, domains, systems. Handed over, in writing, no exceptions.

Scoped before started

What gets done, what it costs, what's not included. Agreed before work starts.

Honest about fit

If my offer isn't right for your firm, I'll say so on the first call.

Where I am now

All in on this niche.

This is what I do, full time. Two ways to work together, one kind of client, and a small number of firms at a time so every relationship gets real attention.
